Monday Minute: Painting the Room with Sound

It is time for your Fearless Monday Minute. Last week I had the privilege of facilitating a breakout session at the National Gay Lesbian Chamber of Commerce conference. And as always, to prepare for the opportunity not only do you work on your content, but more importantly right before the event, it’s important to do a thorough physical and vocal warmup, which I did. And as I was warming myself up in the space, I was aware that it was a really tricky room because it was very deep. It was a very long room. So what I did was that when I was warming up is I chose to sit or stand in the center of the room, and over the course the physical vocal warmup, ensure that my sound was being sent to all parts of the room; all the corners, all the walls. we call that “painting the room with your sound”. It is a way of grounding into your body, warming up the space, and ensuring that you’re primed when the workshop begins.
