Monday Minute: Icebreakers

It is time for your Fearless Monday Minute. At Fearless Communicators, we love to say that there’s no such thing as private speaking, all speaking is public speaking. And there’s one opportunity that tends to trigger a little bit of those nerves and anxiety. And that is the formal and informal ways that we have to break the ice when we’re introducing ourselves to a group of strangers. Now, one wonderful question that I’ve been using lately is not the tried and tired “So what do you do?” or “Where do you live?” The one that is absolute gold at the moment, which I am loving is, “Tell me one thing you can’t shut up about”. And the reason why that question is so yummy is because it tends to trigger someone to share from place of passion, from a place of desire, and from a place of excitement. And just watch as that question percolates around the room and people start sharing things that they actually really care about. And that is your Monday Minute.
